DNL VILLELA | Bio

(Mexico City, 1983). Visual communication at the University Center. His academic thesis: “Los 16 Cuadros ” led him to move to the state of Oaxaca to continue his research in pigment extraction and dyeing techniques in the Teotitlán del Valle region.

In 2015 he created “Phigmento” (figmento), an experimental project that combines artisanal and contemporary techniques in the development of canvases, textile tapestries and rethinking Mexican clothing; His work has been exhibited in cultural venues such as: The University Museum, Contemporary Art Museum (MUAC), Amparo Museum, Museum of popular arts and the Institute of Graphic Arts of Oaxaca (IAGO).

His work has crossed the continent for group exhibitions in Spain, France and Switzerland. In 2019 his work was selected by the Center de los Artes de San Agustín (CASA) and the Textile Museum of Oaxaca by the Atelier Mondial residency program in Basel, Switzerland to continue his studies in textiles.

Part of his narrative: "The Contemplation of Observation" arises in France and Switzerland, simultaneously, where it applies the large format and in-urban facilities; using the wallpaper as a pretext and motif. The exhibition took place in the Salon Mondial, School of Arts and Technology (HeK) in Basel, Switzerland. He currently collaborates on cultural projects at the Broadcast Center for the knowledge of the great fine mealybug at Rancho Tlapanochestli in Santa María Coyotepec, Oaxaca state.
